La Belle Road rehabilitation making good progress

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas recently went out to La Belle Road in Stikland to see the progress of the ongoing road rehabilitation works. Residents can be assured that the City is committed to speeding up the progress of the project, with the new expected completion date set for mid-September.

The City of Cape Town’s road rehabilitation work along La Belle Road between Strand Road and Willow Street in Stikland, Bellville is progressing well.

‘I would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience thus far, I know it has been a lengthy project. The road was in a very poor condition and required a much deeper treatment than just resurfacing due to the volume of heavy vehicle movement in this industrial area. I am happy with the progress I have seen on this visit. Residents can look forward to a safer, more reliable road, improved stormwater infrastructure and upgraded sidewalks in this vicinity.

‘I want road users to understand that these sorts of projects take far longer, and progress is less visible because the existing road layers are being recycled in stages, and once a layer has been recycled, it must be left to cure for at least seven days before the next layer can be constructed. These curing periods are necessary to ensure that the road achieves the required strength and long-term performance,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.
